Night Lenses - correcting short sightedness whilst you sleep
What are Night Lenses?
Night lenses are Rigid Gas Permeable (RGP) contact lenses that are worn at night whilst sleeping. During the night, the lens alters the shape of the front of the eye – the cornea. So, the following day, the wearer has excellent vision without the need for spectacles or contact lenses.
Benefits to the patient:
- Stable vision without the need for spectacles/contact lenses – excellent for sports/swimming
- No contact lens related dryness or discomfort
- Freedom of having naturally good eyesight
- Potential for myopia control in children. See our Myopia Control page for more details.
How do the lenses work?
Whilst you are sleeping, the lenses reshape the cornea at the front of the eye. When you wake up, the lenses have corrected the focusing power of the eye, meaning that you don’t need to wear lenses or contact lenses during the day.

How to try Night Lenses
As we are new to Night Lenses, the first few fittings are going to be carried out by Jo who has been doing additional training and liaising with Scot Lenses – where Night Lenses are designed and manufactured. All the Night Lens fitting is at the Woolwich practice as the specialist equipment is there.
The fitting process is £85 and includes:
- Initial Fit – this will be a health check of the eye, taking all the measurements for ordering the lenses.
- Initial lens order
- When the lenses arrive, we will teach you how to insert and remove the lenses and look after the lenses.
- The patient wears the lenses overnight and comes in for an appointment the following morning.
- Follow-up appointment 2 weeks later.
- If any additional appointments are required during this time, they are included.
- Once the trial is complete and the patient and the Optometrist are happy, a Direct Debit is set up to cover the lenses, insertion drops, contact lens solutions and ongoing aftercare - this is from £50 per month.
Please note patients will need an up-to-date eye examination – this is not included in the initial fee; however, it can be conducted at the same time as the initial fitting. Separate fees may apply.
